Role of sensory organs in efficiency analysed

TIRUPATI, MARCH 28. A national seminar on "Work culture and efficiency: Lessons from ancient Indian psychology and philosophy," conducted by the Indian Council of Social Sciences Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, and Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati, focussed on the role of sensory organs in determining an individual's efficiency and performance, on Sunday.

The session, chaired by N.S.Ramanuja Tatacharya, the first vice-chancellor of the Vidyapeetha, had Mani Dravid of the Madras Sanskrit College and Sukharajan Saha of the Kolkata Sanskrit College as speakers.

Dr.Tatacharya spoke on the 11 organs, including the heart, five sensory organs (Gnanendriyas) and five metabolic organs (Karmendriyas) that determine a person's character, mental make-up and poise.

R.C.Pradhan of the Central University, Hyderabad, Tandra Patnaik of Utkal University, Orissa, N.R.Srinivasan of Benaras Hindu University, Varanasi, V.Pandurangi of the French Indology Institute, Pondicherry, and Sanjay Mukherjee of IIM, Kolkata, were among those who took part in the deliberations, presided over by the Chancellor, V.R.Panchamukhi.
