KOZHIKODE, MARCH 28. A seminar and a student paper contest were organised jointly by the student branch of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEE) and Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering Departments of the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NITC) on the NITC campus near here on Saturday. N.N. Panicker, Professor Emeritus California Institute of Technology (CIT), U.S., inaugurated the function. Speaking on the topic, ``A creative approach to development through innovations in energy efficiency, mobile communications and internet systems'', Dr. Panicker said that sustainable development had to be facilitated without jeopardising the interests of the future generations. The director-in-charge of NITC, Dr. T.L. Jose, presided over the function. K.P. Mohandas, professor of electrical engineering, NITC, and Rahul Radhakrishnan, IEEE student chapter chairperson, spoke on the occasion. The inaugural function was followed by technical sessions on ``Mobile Communication'' by B. Ramakrishna, chief operations officer, Escotel, ``Software engineering best practices'' by Unni Sankar, senior software manager, Network Systems & Technologies Ltd.
