MAHABUBNAGAR, MARCH 28. An Action Team Member of the People's War was killed in an exchange of fire with the police on Sunday near Polepalli village of Amangal mandal. The police recovered a `tapancha', a kitbag and two live rounds besides some revolutionary literature from the site. Three naxalites managed to escape. According to information reaching the district headquarters, around 6 a.m. a special police party, which was combing the area, came across a group of naxalites. The police asked them to surrender, but their plea went unheeded. Naxalites opened fire and the police retaliated in self-defence. Fifteen rounds of fire was exchanged. After suspension of firing, the police, who searched the area, found the body of a naxalite. It was identified as that of N. Mallesh alias Ravi.
Landmines unearthed
Karimnagar: The Ramugundam police unearthed 10 claymore-cum-landmines which were concealed in a haystack at Akenapalli village of Ramagundam mandal on Sunday. The Ramagundam Sub-Inspector, J. Krishna Reddy, said that on information about the movement of naxalites in the village, the police launched combing operation in the village. During the checking, the police stumbled upon the empty claymore-cum-land mines in the haystack near an agricultural field. The empty claymore mines (pipes) were so designed that they could be used as landmines also. However, no explosive was stored in the pipes meant for using them as mines.
Wine shop torched
Visakhapatnam: People's War naxalites burnt a wine shop owned by a Telugu Desam Party leader at Lothugedda and later damaged a private jeep in Chintapalle mandal in the district last night. According to the police, the wine shop belongs to the TDP Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) member, Gali Appala Naidu.
Surrendered naxal
found dead
According to a report from Vizianagaram, the body of a surrendered naxalite, Kadraka Subba Rao (19) of Ulipirivalasa in Komarada mandal, was found with a head injury and fractured legs adjacent to a railway track near the village on Saturday. According to information, Subba Rao was surrendered before the former Superintendent of Police, Soumya Misra in Komarada police station on September 23 last year.
