RPI to contest 17 Assembly, two LS seats

By Our Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPATNAM, MARCH 28. The Republican Party of India has decided to field its candidates in 17 Assembly and two Lok Sabha constituencies in the coming elections as the Congress did not show any interest for alliance with it, said its State unit president, P.V. Chakravarthi.

Speaking to newsmen on Sunday, he said that RPI would support secular parties in other constituencies. It would work for the defeat of BJP-TDP combine. He said that party had pleaded with Congress leaders to allot at least three Assembly seats to it but in vain. So, the party decided to contest from Visakhapatnam and Amalapuram Lok Sabha constituencies and 17 Assembly constituencies, including five in Visakhapatnam district.
