Partly cloudy sky forecast

There will be `partly cloudy' skies in the city on Monday and there could be rain or thunder showers towards the evening, according to the forecast of the India Meteorological Department.

The temperature will vary between 33 and 21 degree centigrade, the met department forecast.

The city on Sunday recorded a maximum temperature of 33.5 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 22 degrees Celsius. The corresponding readings at the airport were 32.8 and 21.2.

No rain was recorded in the city on Sunday. Relative humidity was 35 per cent in the city and 41 per cent at the airport.

Results

The results of Hindi and Kannada lower and higher examinations of Karnataka Mahila Hindi Seva Samithi held in February will be announced on Monday at 11 a.m. at the samiti's head office in Chamarajpet and in all Hindi Vidyalayas of the State, according to a press release.

Haiku

The Haiku Society of India has invited entries of Haiku written in only 5, 7, 5 syllabic form for its third international Haiku competition.

The entries should reach the Chairman, Haiku Society of India, Post Box 1181, Jayanagar, Bangalore - 5600 011, on or before August 31. The results will be announced in December.

Drainage

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewarage Board (BWSSB) has cautioned residents of all new wards of the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) not to heed to the demands of some unscrupulous elements who were allegedly demanding money to connect their houses to the underground drainage system.

"Paying money to unauthorised persons and getting connection amounts to illegal connection," the BWSSB said in a press release.

The board had provided underground drainage and water supply lines to some of the new wards such as C.V. Raman Nagar, and Venkatapura.

Training

Janodaya has invited applications from poor urban women for three-month training in City Taxi driving, herbal beauty care, baby care, and creche services, house-keeping, cooking, and advanced tailoring for garment work. Those interested can contact Janodaya (ph: 23332564 or 25701974).

Cancer test

The Karnataka Cancer Society has organised a free cancer screening programme at its premises on 11th B cross, Vyalikaval, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., Monday to Saturday. Pap smear test will be conducted for women aged above 25. For details, call 23448534.

Old clothes

The Sapthami Trust will collect used clothes, articles, and furniture from residents of Shreyas Colony, J.P. Nagar, at the Chinnare Loka Play Centre, 3rd Main, every Sunday. The collected items will be distributed among the rural poor, orphans, and the aged. For details, call 23481239.

Free camp

The Chamarajanagar Association has organised a free summer camp for students on personality development, general knowledge, Bharathanatyam, folk dance, drama, light music, crafts and Sanskrit shlokas. Children aged above eight can register their names on or before April 4.
