BANGALORE, MARCH 28. The prospective candidates of the parties, including those from the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stayed away from "candidate-voter" meet organised in K.R. Puram here on Sunday. Organised by Pragatipara Janagruti Vedike, the meeting provided a platform for the candidates contesting from Varthur Assembly Constituency to interact with their voters. A section of the voters, who came to the meeting were disappointed at not seeing the Minister for Social Welfare, A. Krishnappa (Congress), and Ashwathnarayana Reddy (BJP). H.N. Gopala Gowda (Communist Party of India-Marxist) was the only candidate to turn up for the event. He was joined by Pratap Reddy, general secretary of Janata Dal (Secular); Venkataswamy, spokesman for the Bahujan Samaj Party; and Padma Narayan Kumar, spokesman for the Congress. The men on the dais had some serious questions to answer. M. Ramarao, an aged man from Ramamurthy Nagar, asked Mr. Reddy how the Janata Dal (Secular) proposed to solve peoples' problems when its own leaders could not resolve the differences among the other Janata Parivar parties.
