Vijayashanti not to contest poll

HYDERABAD, MARCH 30. In a sudden development, the BJP nominated Subhash Chanderji, the Deputy Mayor, as candidate for the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat in place of film actress and Mahila Morcha's vice-president, Vijayashanti.

Announcing the replacement of Ms.Vijayashanti at a press conference here today, the State BJP president, N.Indrasena Reddy, said that the central party requested Ms.Vijayashanti not to contest the elections and spare her services for campaigning in the States of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Replying to a question, he denied she had refused to contest, and said the leadership took the decision to utilise her services for electioneering.

He said the Union Minister, B. Dattatreya, who is seeking re-election from the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat, and Mr.Subhash Chanderji, would file their nominations on Wednesday in the presence of the party president, M.Venkaiah Naidu. Mr.Chanderji expressed confidence that he would defeat his Majlis rival, Asaduddin Owaisi.
