PATNA, MARCH 30. Unidentified criminals shot dead a jailor of the Beur Central Jail near his residence at Mokhtartoli here last night. Family sources said the assailants gunned down Nagendra Kumar Singh as soon as he alighted from an ambulance of the jail. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to the injuries. Eyewitnesses said the assassins, who came in a two-wheeler, opened fire in the air to scare away the people. Police said at least 13 bullets were pumped into the body of the victim who was on the hit list of the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) and People's War Group (PWG) following a recent lathi charge on their comrades lodged in Beur jail. He received threats from the son of a notorious criminal from Mainpura area of the city. Jail minister Ashok Choudhury and minister of state Baswan Bhagat visited the hospital. -- UNI
