THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 30. The Minister for Ports and Cooperation, M.V .Raghavan, announced here today that the Government was preparing an action plan to clean up the polluted Parvathy Puthanar canal from Chacka to Poonthura. Speaking after visiting the Vallakadavu area in his constituency to witness the clogged portion of the canal, he said the project, estimated to cost Rs.1.14 crores, would be implemented soon. The sand bar at Veli had been breached to let out the polluted water to sea. The sand bar at Poonthura would also be broken after assessing the flow, he added. The Minister said he had instructed the Health Department authorities to ensure health and sanitation in the areas bordering the canal.
