BANGALORE, MARCH 30. Five Congress members of the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP), block presidents of the party in the Binnypet Assembly Constituency, and the chairmen and members of a few boards and corporations have said that they will resign from the party if it nominates V. Somanna for the Binnypet Assembly seat. Mr. Somanna, who was elected as an independent in the election in 1999, joined the Congress recently. Among those who have said that they will resign are supporters of "Layout" Krishnappa, MLC, and rival of Mr. Somanna. They include B.T. Srinivas Murthy, G. Krishnappa, Gayathri Shivappa, Nagarathnamma Pillaraj, and Keshava Murthy, councillors. Mr. Krishnappa organised a meeting of his supporters today to take stock of the situation in the constituency.
