BANGALORE, MARCH 30. The former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation and Rajya Sabha member, K. Kasturirangan, will take over as the Director of National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bangalore, on March 31. According to a release from the NIAS, Dr. Kasturirangan will succeed the renowned aerospace scientist, Roddam Narasimha, in the post. The NIAS, which was established in 1988 at the initiative of late J.R.D. Tata, is a multi-disciplinary research institute with a focus on interface between natural, social, and human sciences. Raja Ramanna, scientist, is the Founder Director of the NIAS. Dr. Kasturiranagan, a former Chairman of the Space Commission, is a recipient of Padma Vibushan (2000) and the Shanthi Swaroop Bhatnagar (1989) award.
