BANGALORE, MARCH 30. The police suspect that the kidnap of an 18-year-old youth from Jayanagar on Monday evening followed a dispute over a business transaction between some persons and the youth's father, a businessman. Nagendra, a second year pre-university student, was taken away from the bus stand at 4th Block, Jayanagar, by six people in a van. The kidnappers assaulted Nagendra's friends who resisted them, the police said. On a complaint from Nagendra's father, Shivakumar of 3rd Block, Jayanagar, the Tilaknagar police have registered a case of kidnapping. Sources in the city police told The Hindu on Tuesday that Mr. Shivakumar was engaged in the seeds business. They said that a few people who had purchased seeds from Mr. Shivakumar demanded that he return the money as their crops had failed. "We suspect their involvement in the kidnapping," sources said. Mr. Shivakumar received a ransom call on Tuesday, and the police were trying to find out from where it was made. They have formed two teams to rescue Nagendra.
