Ramanavami celebrations start with saxophone recital

BANGALORE, MARCH 30. The 66th Sri Ramanavami celebrations, organised by Sri Ramaseva Mandali, began today with a saxophone recital by Kadri Gopalnath at Fort School premises in Chamarajpet here.

The artiste commenced his recital by rendering Vaatapi ganapathim bhaje... in Hamsadhwani raga.

Speaking at the inauguration of the celebrations, H. Narasimhaiah, Gandhian and educationist, said Indian classical music programmes were not attracting the youth.

However, there were large crowds at Western music concerts held at the Palace Grounds, he added. He commended the mandali for organising music programmes every year for the past 66 years.

Prema Krishna, wife of the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, released a book on "janya ragas."

N. Lakshman Rao, president of the mandali, welcomed the gathering. Sriramachandra, general secretary, proposed a vote of thanks.

C.S. Kedar, Secretary, Information and Tourism, was present.
