dated April 1, 1954: Ministers dismissed

An order issued by the French India Government, under date March 30, states that the appointments of M. Edouard Goubert and Mr. Muthukumarappa Reddiar as members of the Government Council are cancelled. According to the order, Mr. Muthu Pillai has also been suspended from the office of Mayor of Pondicherry. The French India Administration on March 31 also took the serious step of posting police pickets, both uniformed constables and plainclothesmen, in the vicinity of the office of the Consul-General for India in Pondicherry.
