`TINA' factor works in Vadde's favour

VIJAYAWADA, MARCH 31. The TINA (there is no other alternative) factor seemed to have finally clicked in favour of the Agriculture Minister, Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao, whose renomination from the Mylavaram Assembly constituency was effected belatedly on Monday by the party leadership. Though the Chief Minister and party president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, was said to be reluctant to renominate Mr. Rao initially, the fact that there was no other party leader worth the name to take over the reins in the constituency, compelled the leadership to renominate him.

The challenge posed to Mr. Rao's leadership in the constituency by his bete noire, Jyesta Ramesh Babu (MLA in 1994-1999), who also sought TDP ticket, ultimately proved to be of little consequence, as the latter had been expelled from the party long ago. Besides the TINA factor, some of the party's Politburo members are said to have strongly lobbied for Mr. Rao's renomination, which eventually "constrained'' Mr. Naidu to renominate the Minister.
