Tirupati
By Our Staff Reporter
TIRUPATI, MARCH. 31. The Tirupati module of State Bank of India (SBI) has set for itself an ambitious target of Rs. 900 crores for the ensuing financial year 2004-05, which incidentally is its silver jubilee year. This is a projected 15 per cent rise over its current level of business worth Rs. 772 crores, achieved till February 2004. The module, comprising Chittoor, Cuddapah, Anantapur, Nellore and Prakasam districts, has 172 branches, all of them computerised, wherein the Business generated Per Employee (BPE) has risen to touch Rs. 120.52 lakhs. Addressing a media conference to reveal the module's achievements for the year 2003-04 here on Wednesday, the deputy general manager, A. Raghavendrachar, said that the bank was in for a sea change with the introduction of technological and corporate concepts like Business Process Re-engineering and Core Banking Solutions during the year. While the former is on re-training the employees with a paradigm shift in focus on the customer, in view of the changed working environment, the latter is on the linking of around 15 select branches in the module (7 in Tirupati alone) to the bank's national information grid. While claiming that the module had registered an excellent performance despite the continuous drought, Mr. Raghavendrachar noted that at the same time, there was no undue pressure on the farmers for repayment.
Online `seva'
The bank is in tie-up with the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams management on a package to get the various `sevas' in Tirumala temple and cottages booked at any of the bank's branches in the world. ' `e-hundi' is also part of the software, wherein a devotee can drop his offerings either in an ATM in the country or at the 52 overseas offices in 33 countries. Details on this are being worked out, he said. The bank staff already man the laddu counters in Tirumala and the Alipiri tollgate and sell the `Rahu Ketu puja' tickets in Srikalahasti.
