Welfare schemes get top priority

KASARAGOD, MARCH 31. Social welfare, education, cleanliness, sports and drinking water projects get top priority in the annual budget of the Kasaragod Municipality.

The surplus budget for the next fiscal (2004-05), envisages a revenue of Rs. 11.11 crores and an expenditure of Rs. 10.70 crores.

The budget was presented at the council recently.

Construction of as many as 100 houses for the poor forms part of the social welfare activities proposed in the budget.

An amount of Rs. 1 crore has been set apart for upgrading the municipal ground with a synthetic track.

While the allotment apportioned for projects aimed at resolving drinking water crisis in the municipal area is Rs. 25 lakhs, an amount of Rs. 15 lakhs has been set apart for payment of arrears to the KWA.

The budgetary allocation for tarring of major roads and repairing rural roads under the municipality is Rs. 50 lakhs and Rs. 17 lakhs respectively.

The other major allocations made in the budget are electrification project - Rs. 10 lakhs, waste disposal plant - Rs. 25 lakhs, development of taluk hospital - Rs. 25 lakhs, fish trading centre - Rs. 10 lakhs, renovation of town hall - Rs. 15 lakhs and burial ground renovation - Rs. 10 lakhs.
