Bid to flush out ultras

HAZARIBAGH, MARCH 31. Extremist flush-out operations were stepped up by the authorities in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh Parliamentary Constituency to conduct the Lok Sabha elections in a peaceful manner.

During the past few days, five extremists have surrendered to the authorities and another six arrested in the constituency.

According to the Superintendent of Police, a total of 10 companies of the central forces would be deployed apart from the state police to maintain law and order in the district during the elections.

According to the district election office, the constituency would have a total of 1,186 booths. Of them 281 booths were identified as ``sensitive'' and 278 as ``hyper sensitive''.

The total number of electorate is 1,18,005 and of them 5,43,566 are females.

External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha is contesting the elections from the constituency for the third time in a row.

The polling would be held on April 20 with five other constituencies in the first phase of polling. -- UNI
