KOCHI, MARCH 31 . New laws need to be formulated in order to handle the increasing phenomenon of cyber crimes in this era of technological advancement, said the Acting Chief Justice of Kerala High Court, N.K. Sodhi. Inaugurating the fully-automated and renovated office and council hall of the Bar Council of Kerala at the Bar Council Bhavan on the High Court campus on Wednesday, Justice Sodhi said that lawyers and judges should be equipped to face the new challenges thrown up by the changes wrought by the forces of globalisation and liberalisation. The increase in cyber crimes has necessitated the amending of existing laws and the formulation of newer ones. Justice Sodhi pointed out that information and technology were complementary and supplementary to each other. The changes in technology had played a vital role in changing the way we perceive life itself. The biggest impact was on sourcing of information. Earlier, information could be recorded in paper and locked up. But now, digitalised information could be accessed by anyone, necessitating more security systems. The Kerala High Court Judge, Cyriac Thomas, presided over the function. The Advocate General, M. Ratnasingh, the senior advocate, T.P. Kelu Nambiar, the Bar Council of Kerala chairman, K.B. Mohandas, and the honorary treasurer, K.V. Sadananda Prabhu, also spoke.
