dated April 2, 1954: April Fools Day

Parliamentary press correspondents in Delhi were the victims of a practical joke on April 1. They had gathered at 5.10 p.m. in one of the rooms of Parliament House to attend a press conference by Mr. V. L. Mehta when someone set afloat a rumour that the Prime Minister was to make an important statement in the House of the People in another 20 minutes. The conference was hastily terminated and the correspondents rushed into the House of the People chamber. They waited for more than 30 minutes but the Prime Minister was not even in the chamber. It was April Fools Day.
