Sir, K.N. Panikkar is right in saying that the major responsibility for the rise of communalism rests with the `secular' politicians ("Secularism under siege," March 31). In their anxiety to preserve their votebanks, they have been adopting blatant double standards. K.N. Ramani, Coimbatore * * * Sir, I do not agree that secularism is under siege. The BJP diluting its age-old rhetoric in its vision document, and the RSS welcoming the minorities into its fold are clear signals of secularism progressing in India. Hemant Krishna V., Bangalore
