Under siege?

Sir, — K.N. Panikkar is right in saying that the major responsibility for the rise of communalism rests with the `secular' politicians ("Secularism under siege," March 31). In their anxiety to preserve their votebanks, they have been adopting blatant double standards.

K.N. Ramani,

Coimbatore

Sir, — I do not agree that secularism is under siege. The BJP diluting its age-old rhetoric in its vision document, and the RSS welcoming the minorities into its fold are clear signals of secularism progressing in India.

Hemant Krishna V.,

Bangalore
