Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, APRIL 1. The secretary of the Pondicherry State committee of the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and MLA, A. Anbalagan, today urged the Centre to either keep the Congress Ministry here in suspended animation or dismiss it as the law enforcement authority could not function independently to handle the crime situation. He said there was frequent intervention from the Congress in the working of the Police department. Addressing newsmen here, he said the Pradesh Congress Committee president, V. Narayanasamy, was making baseless allegations against the Lt. Governor, N.N. Jha, and seeking the withdrawal of the Lt. Governor by the Centre. The PCC leader alleged that Mr. Jha had invited the Bharatiya Janata Party nominee for the Lok Sabha election, Lalitha Kumaramangalam, to a dinner hosted in the Raj Nivas to a dignitary on March 23. Instead of finding the reasons for the unchecked rise in crimes, the PCC president was trying to divert people's attention to non-issues, Mr. Anbalagan said.
