JAMMU, APRIL 1 . Located at a height of 17,000 feet above sea level, Pastan polling station in Ladakh parliamentary constituency will be the highest polling station of the country in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. ``Pastan in Ladakh Frontier Region is the highest polling station of the country. It is situated at an altitude of 17,1078 feet'', J&K Election Department sources told PTI here today. The second highest polling station, Hanfallo, is situated at an altitude of 16,250 feet above sea level in Ladakh region, the sources added. Tarkundi polling station, situated along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu parliamentary constituency, has the lowest number of only three voters registered for the polls, they said. Eight polling stations have been set up in house boats in the world famous Dal lake for 5,449 voters of Hazaratbal assembly constituency of Srinagar Lok Sabha seat, they said. As many as 23 polling stations are snow-covered and remote, sources said adding that polling staff and material would be airlifted to these stations. Polling stations in Ladakh including Ralakung, Phema Rangdum Juldoo, Tashi, Stongday, Shaday, Stak, Shun, Ralakung, Kargiak, Tangzay, Tasta, Yougar and Chah remain snow-covered throughout the year, they said. Out of 7,218 polling stations in Jammu and Kashmir, 55 per cent are sensitive and hyper sensitive, the said. PTI
