JAMMU, APRIL 1. The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary, Sudhir S. Bloeria, has urged poll personnel to strictly adhere to the model code of conduct and other guidelines of the Election Commission for the upcoming parliamentary elections. For holding free, fair and transparent elections, close coordination is necessary between the administration and security personnel, Bloeria said while addressing the officers' meeting at Udhampur, 66 km from here, yesterday to review election arrangements in the district. He asked the officers to ensure that training regarding the use of electronic voting machines was provided to every voter. Director General of Police, Gopal Sharma, who attended the meeting, said security forces were being consulted for assistance and assured that there would be no let-up in the security. The district election officer of Udhampur, Ashok Parmar, said 4,91,148 electorate would exercise their franchise at 852 polling stations of the district, which had the distinction of providing over 79 per cent of electors photo identity cards. A proposal to create nine auxiliary and six new polling stations was being examined in view of the guidelines of the Election Commission and subsequently discussed with all the political parties, he added.
