TIRUCHI, APRIL 1. An estimated 2.70 lakh children in the age group of 0 to five in Tiruchi district will be administered polio drops during the third phase of the pulse polio immunisation campaign on April 4, according to the Collector, K. Manivasan. Speaking at a consultative meeting to finalise the arrangements for the campaign here on Wednesday, Mr. Manivasan said the drops would be administered to the children through 1,219 centres in the district. A total of 5,880 government servants and volunteers of service organisations would be involved in carrying out the campaign. All out efforts would be made to ensure 100 per cent coverage during the drive, he said. The Joint Director of Health Services, Adi Krishnan, the Deputy Director, Health, R. Radhakrishnan, and other senior health officials participated in the meeting. The Corporation Commissioner, Anand Patil, said in a release that 221 centres would be set up in the Tiruchi Corporation limits to administer the drops to the children. Nine mobile camps would be deployed to administer the drops to the children in public places such as hospitals, schools, railway stations, bus stands and airport. About 815 government servants and volunteers would be deployed to carry out the campaign in the City, Mr. Patil said.
