Cloudy sky forecast

NEW DELHI APRIL 1. Delhiites will wake up to a generally cloudy sky on Friday. According to weatherman, there is a possibility of thundery development accompanied with squall in some areas. The maximum temperature will be around 37 degrees Celsius.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Thursday were 38.4 and 18.1 degrees Celsius respectively. Palam recorded a maximum of 39.8 degrees Celsius and minimum of 19.2 degrees Celsius.

The maximum and minimum relative humidity at Safdarjung was 63 per cent and 14 per cent respectively while at Palam it was 56 per cent and 15 per cent respectively.

Arrested

NEW DELHI APRIL 1. The Special Cell of the Delhi police has arrested three chain snatchers and a person allegedly involved in cases of robbery from different parts of the Capital.

Two of the accused -- Santosh Singh and Shailender Singh, -- were arrested along with Gulshan Singh, the receiver of the articles stolen by them. During interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in cases of chain snatching.

Hooch seized

NEW DELHI APRIL 1. Two persons allegedly indulging in illicit liquor trade were arrested from Burari in North Delhi today. Two cars and 1,600 bottles of country-made liquor were recovered from their possession.

The vehicles driven by Satish and Ram Chander were intercepted near Pushta. During search, the police recovered the liquor bottles after which they arrested the duo under the Excise Act. During interrogation, they disclosed that they had procured the consignment from one Devender of Jahangirpuri.

Pre-poll sweep

NEW DELHI APRIL 1. In a drive launched in view of the forthcoming general elections, the North Delhi police have detained 637 people and arrested 74 criminals from across the district.

Among those arrested are three having past criminal records, 18 ruffians and a proclaimed offender. In all, 13 cases under the Excise Act have been registered during the drive, 588 bottles and 43 litres liquor have been seized. The drive is still on.

Gangsters held

NEW DELHI APRIL 1. Two alleged members of the Naresh Bhati gang allegedly involved in a robbery attempt at Anand Vihar in East Delhi on March 19 have been arrested. Police claim to have recovered foreign-made firearms and live rounds from them.

According to the police, a trap was laid behind the Anand Vihar Inter-State Bus Terminus following a tip-off about the two suspects on Wednesday. The duo, identified as Vikram Singh, a Najafgarh resident, and Hanumant Singh, a resident of West Delhi, were rounded up when they appeared on the scene. The police recovered a US-made Smith and Wesson revolver with five live cartridges, an Italian pistol (.32-bore) with four live cartridges and a .38-bore US-made revolver with four live cartridges were recovered from them.

Burglars nabbed

NEW DELHI APRIL 1. Three persons allegedly involved in several cases of burglary reported from South Delhi have been arrested by the Special Staff of the South Delhi police. The police claim to have recovered stolen items worth Rs. 4 lakhs from the accused.

They have been identified as Mohammad Israr (22), Mohammad Basul (21) and Wasim Raja Siddique (23).
