New allies join NATO

BRUSSELS (Belgium), April 2. Soldiers from seven new NATO allies from eastern Europe hoisted their national flags outside the alliance headquarters on Friday in a historic ceremony to mark the biggest expansion of the pact's 55-year history.

The Foreign Ministers from Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Latvia and Estonia joined their colleagues of the other 19 allies at the ceremony as their countries' anthems were played.
