THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, APRIL 2. Ashish Nehra will replace the injured Zaheer Khan in the Indian team for the second Test against Pakistan to be played in Lahore from April 5. The decision to send Nehra as reinforcement was taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today after consultation with its senior selection committee. A BCCI press release issued by its secretary, S.K. Nair said the decision was based on a request received by the Board from the Indian team management and that Nehra would be flying to Pakistan today. Mr. Nair said Nehra, who had injured his palm during the third one-dayer in Peshawar and was ruled out for the last two games and the first Test, was also cleared by the chairman of the Board's Medical panel, Dr. Anant Joshi before a final decision was made. Dr. Joshi gave the clean chit to Nehra who was flown in to Mumbai on Thursday. Dr. Joshi found that the paceman had been fully cured on the split web that he had suffered between the thumb and forefinger on his left hand. The medical report from Dr. Joshi also said that there was no inflammation in Nehra's ankle which was another reason that he had to return home from Pakistan last month. The BCCI secretary also said that Mohammed Kaif will also be flying to Lahore today as replacement for the injured skipper Sourav Ganguly, as per an earlier decision taken by the Board.
