Plea to EC
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI,
APRIL 2.
The National Union of Backward Classes and SCs, STs and Minorities has urged the Chief Election Commissioner to initiate action against the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa under the People's Representation Act for assisting a police head constable who had chopped his three fingers.
He had made the `offering' to a temple "for the victory of the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) combine in the Lok Sabha election".
The chairman of the Southern States of the Union, Suba.Seetharaman, in a representation, said the Chief Minister's "support" for such activities would `demoralise' the government servants and her "gesture" would force others to adopt similar practice.
He urged the CEC to instruct the State Government to take disciplinary action against the head constable, Rathinam of Karipatti police station, Salem district, as his action violated the Government Servants' Conduct Rules.
