Washington: Even while asking Congress for a two-year extension in the requirement for Visa Waiver Programme Countries to include biometrics in passports, the Department of Homeland Security and the State Department have announced that the fingerprinting programme will be expanded to include millions from some of America's closest allies. It has been formally announced that the Visa Waiver travellers from as many as 27 countries including Britain, France, Germany, Singapore, Japan and Australia will be enrolled in the U.S. Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology (U.S.-VISIT) programme by September 30, 2004. This means that fingerprinting and photographing travellers from the Visa Waiver countries will take place at 115 international airports and 14 seaports in this country. Nationals from the Visa Waiver countries can travel for up to 90 days in the U.S. without a Visa.
