Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, APRIL 3. The Pondicherry Pradesh Congress Committee has sent a petition to the Election Commission seeking revocation of recognition given to the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) and divesting the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, of her Assembly membership as comments on the nationality of the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, were continuing. The PCC president, V. Narayanasamy, said in a release today that Ms. Jayalalithaa and BJP leaders had been raking up the nationality issue in their campaign. He charged the BJP-led Government at the Centre with having let down the people of Pondicherry without taking up any development schemes. When the Congress was in power at the Centre, it launched several important projects. The BJP was not able to find a local candidate for the Lok Sabha poll and had fielded a candidate from outside Pondicherry. The nominee, Lalitha Kumaramangalam, was a permanent resident of Tamil Nadu and had no knowledge about the people of Pondicherry.
