Jammu & Kashmir
By Our Staff Reporter
JAMMU, APRIL 3. The National Conference president, Omar Abdullah, today embarked on a road show to reach out to the people of the State. He expressed the fear that the ruling coalition Government in Jammu and Kashmir might rig the parliamentary elections and alleged that the State Government had already put its favourite officers in key posts in administration and in paramilitary forces. Mr. Omar said that his party leaders had informed the Chief Election Commissioner of the ``utter violation of the model code of conduct by the coalition Government led by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.'' Mr. Omar said he was surprised that the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who harped on a free and fair election in the State in 2002, did not utter a word on that now. He alleged that the coalition Government was not providing security to the National Conference office-bearers. The road show, the first of its kind in the State, drew huge crowds and a big cavalcade of party supporters followed Mr. Omar.
