Portion of tank collapses, 33 labourers hurt

By Our Staff Correspondent

BELLARY, APRIL 3. Thirty-three labourers were injured when a portion of the water tank which they were cleaning collapsed at the Nava Karnataka Steel Rolling Mill here on Friday.

The injured, most of them youngsters, were rushed to the Basaveshwara Medical Centre. Those who had suffered fractures were admitted to the hospital while others were discharged after treatment as outpatients.

Today, a group of people, most of them relatives of the injured, gathered in front of the hospital and complained that a police complaint about the accident had not been submitted.S.J.V. Mahipal, a doctor who owns the hospital, said a complaint would be submitted. The manager of the mill was heckled by the gathering for not reporting the accident to the police and for admitting the injured to a private nursing home instead of the Government Medical College Hospital.

Later, the injured were shifted to the medical college hospital.
