Poll strategy on April 12: Chandy

By Our Staff Reporter

KOLLAM, APRIL 3. The UDF convener, Oommen Chandy, said here today that the election strategy of the UDF for the Lok Sabha election would be finalised on April 12.

At a `Meet-the-Press' programme here, he said the strategy would be formulated at the UDF liaison committee meeting to be held on April 12.

Though the UDF had held three liaison committee meetings since the declaration of the elections, these were mainly to discuss the drought situation in the State. Mr. Chandy alleged that both the LDF and the UDF were trying to politicise the drought situation.

The approach of the BJP towards the State vis-a-vis the drought situation was "by and large insulting".

The Centre had not shown any sympathy towards the State, he said. Asked about the prospects of the UDF in the elections, he said though there may not be any wave as such, the UDF would fare better than the last parliamentary elections. This was mainly because the masses considered the Congress as the only alternative at the Centre.
