NEW DELHI, APRIL.3. The Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Jagdish Mukhi, today urged the Election Commission of India to take strong action against the Delhi Government for misusing the Antodaya Anna Yojna to propagate the cause of the Government and the party in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls. In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, T.S. Krishnamurthy, he alleged that along with the Antodaya forms, every applicant is being issued one handbill propagating this scheme as an initiative of the Delhi Government. The handbills also have the photographs of the Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, and the Delhi Food and Supplies Minister, Raj Kumar Chauhan. He said the Antodaya scheme was started by the BJP-led Central Government throughout the country for the poorest of the poor. By having photographs of Ms. Dikshit and Mr. Chauhan inscribed on handbills was clear violation of the election code of conduct in force. Mr. Mukhi said that even the MLAs who have been issued 50 forms each of the scheme have been given these handbills. He urged the Election Commission to take cognizance of this violation and pass appropriate orders against the Delhi Government and its Council of Ministers. On the other hand, Mr. Mukhi said that the contents of the vote on account presented by the Finance Minister, A.K. Walia, in the Delhi Assembly on March 25 were also a violation of the code of conduct. He said certain contents of the vote on account statement contain paragraphs that glorify the achievements of the Delhi Government. This was also in violation of the code of conduct and action should be taken against the Government.
