Clear sky likely

NEW DELHI APRIL 3 . Delhiites will wake up to a mainly clear sky on Sunday and the maximum temperature is expected to be around 39 degrees Celsius, the weatherman has said.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Saturday were 38.0 and 20.5 degrees Celsius respectively. Palam recorded a maximum of 38.7 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 20.4 degrees Celsius. The maximum and the minimum relative humidity at Safdarjung was 63 per cent and 22 per cent, while at Palam it was 55 per cent and 17 per cent.

Liquor seized

NEW DELHI APRIL 3. A huge quantity of smuggled liquor has been recovered from a Tata-407 vehicle at Gulabi Bagh in North Delhi. Two persons have been arrested.

Acting on a tip-off that liquor was being smuggled using a Tata-407, the police carried out a search and finally recovered 1,800 liquor bottles from the vehicle. The police found out that the consignment was actually meant to be exported to the United Arab Emirates.

The driver, Jagan Nath, and his accomplice, Abdul Latif, were arrested.

Further investigations are under way.

Two arrested

NEW DELHI APRIL 3. Two persons, one of them a Bangladeshi national and allegedly involved in cases of robbery and auto-lifting, have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police from Patiala House courts premises here.

The Crime Branch recently received a tip-off that Prem Singh, a driver working with a lawyer practicing at Patiala Courts, had been assisting a gang of criminals in preparing the duplicates of keys of vehicles parked in and around the court premises. Further probe revealed that one of the gang members, Abbu Jalal, would go to Karol Bagh to commit a robbery. Subsequently, the police laid a trap and arrested him. Prem Singh was also arrested from Mandawali. During interrogation, he confessed to having links with the gang which was into auto-lifting and robbery. They allegedly robbed two auto-rickshaw drivers of money some days ago.

Man stabbed

NEW DELHI APRIL 3. One person was stabbed to death at Welcome in North-East Delhi on Friday.

According to the police, Rajesh, a resident of Welcome, was admitted to G.T.B. Hospital with deep stab wounds on Friday. He later succumbed to the injuries. Investigations revealed that his brother had taken him to the hospital. The police have registered a case of murder and are questioning Rajesh's brother for clues.
