Pawar undergoes surgery
By Our Special Correspondent
MUMBAI,
APRIL 3.
The Nationalist Congress Party leader, Sharad Pawar, was operated upon and "an infection" and "a growth" in his mouth had been successfully removed. He would campaign through the media from April 15, the party spokesman, Praful Patel, said here today.
Mr. Pawar's friend and physician Ravi Bapat said, "Thankfully, the infection has not spread as feared." The medical implication of the "infection" has not been explained so far. The "growth" taken out has been sent for biopsy.
According to Mr. Patel, Mr. Pawar would be in hospital "for four or five days as a precaution" and then allowed to stay at home from where "he can do his politics, meet workers and conduct a soft campaign." From around April 20, if the doctors permit, he would "appear at public meetings and possibly speak a little."
