HYDERABAD, APRIL 3. The Movement for Sustainable Development (MSD) has demanded that the Government to come clean on the issue of allowing the M/S Chemplast's PVC plant proposed at Krishnapatnam. In a statement, J. Rama Rao, convenor of the MSD, said the Government, instead of coming out openly against the project, merely says it was not cleared by the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) so far. The fact is surreptitious efforts were made to clear it on March 27 and only when the MSD brought it to the notice of the Chief Secretary and the Principal Secretary of Environment and Forests that the APPCB was asked to refer the issue back to Technical Committee. He wondered why the Government was keen on clearing the project much against the public opinion, reflected in the Environmental Public Hearing held at Krishnapatnam, opposition by local political parties and the scientific opinion.
