HYDERABAD, APRIL 3. Andhra Pradesh has made rapid strides in industrialisation and now enjoys leadership status in knowledge industry, and sectors like information technology, biotechnology, drugs and pharmaceuticals, said the Governor, Surjit Singh Barnala. Addressing members of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), after inaugurating the session on `Cooperation for Competitiveness: Racing to the Future-Building on Excellence' to mark the CII Andhra Pradesh Silver Jubilee annual day on Saturday, he said Andhra Pradesh forms an integral part of the growth powerhouse of the Southern Region. The State can be highlighted as a success story of public, private partnership as the alliance of the CII and Andhra Pradesh Government has led to the growth and development of the industry and society as a whole, he said. The stature of India and Andhra Pradesh has grown and it is through cooperation amongst these sectors (IT, pharma and Biotech) that we are now more competitive and ready to take on the global challenges, he said. R. Natarajan, the chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), dealt on issues like technology changes in last several decades, and changing skill sets requirement. K.K.M. Kutty, Chairman, CII, Southern Region, said historically Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have been the engine for economic growth in developed countries. In India also SMEs were gearing themselves to face challenges of the changing environment. K. Satish Reddy, Chairman of CII-A.P, said India offers excellent investment opporutinities. It can also capitalise on its `pockets of excellence', he said. The Governor also presented awards on the occasion.
