Nandigama peaceful

By Our Special Correspondent

VIJAYAWADA, APRIL 4. The situation in Nandigama Assembly constituency, which had witnessed group clashes between the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Congress workers on Wednesday night and Thursday morning returned to near normalcy.

The `Samruddhi Andhra' padayatra launched by the Congress aspirant for the Vijayawada Lok Sabha seat, L. Rajagopal, passed off peacefully in the constituency on Sunday.

With Mr. Rajagopal scheduled to cover Nandigama and Kanchikacherla villages where the clashes took place, the police had made elaborate arrangements all along the route to prevent any untoward incident. The CPI (M) leaders including the party's Politburo member, Koratala Satyanarayana, and the Krishna district secretary, V. Umamaheswara Rao, received Mr. Rajagopal at Nandigama where they addressed a public meeting. Mr. Rajagopal along with his supporters reached Paritala in the evening, covering a distance of 26 km, where he would make a night halt. He will resume his yatra from Paritala on Monday.
