PONDICHERRY, APRIL 4. The Freedom Fighters Association has called upon the Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, to give up the Home portfolio as incidents of heinous crimes had been on the increase in the Union Territory. The president, M. Periasamy, said in a release here yesterday that the Administration was unnecessarily delaying enforcement of the Goondas Act though the need for such legislation had become necessary in the backdrop of rise in murders. The people were living in constant fear. He said that even men in uniform were not safe. Two constables on duty in the Mudaliarpet station were injured when an aruval-wielding gang entered the station to murder a youth.
