Allotment of Proddatur to BJP triggers protest

By Our Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH, APRIL 4. Telugu Desam Party functionaries burnt two effigies of Mr. Satya, personal assistant to the BJP national president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, and took out protest rallies and blocked traffic by forming human chain in Proddatur town protesting against allotment of the Proddatur Assembly seat to the BJP.

The Telugu Desam Party publicity secretary, Kamisetty Babu, the town president, Khaja Hussain, and senior leader and municipal councillor, Gurivi Reddy, led a rally of 2,000-strong party men and announced that the TDP would not work for the BJP in the elections. Mr. Reddy strived to strengthen the TDP in the segment, but the party leaders `sold' the ticket to the BJP, they alleged.

They also flayed the district BJP president, N. Bali Reddy. They questioned the rationale behind allotting Proddatur seat to the BJP, which failed to win even one ward member, MPTC or ZPTC membership in the constituency.

They threatened to intensify their agitation if the TDP leadership failed to re-allot the seat to Mr. Linga Reddy.
