ALAPPUZHA, APRIL 4. The SNDP Yogam seems to have made a decisive shift from its policy of supporting the UDF. According to sources, the SNDP Yogam Council that met at Cherthala today decided to support LDF candidates in 12 Lok Sabha constituencies in the State in the coming elections. The Yogam would also support the LDF candidate in the Wadakkancherry Assembly bypoll, they said. They said that the Yogam would support the UDF in three constituencies and would allow its members to vote according to their conscience in three other constituencies. The constituencies where the Yogam would support the LDF candidate include Kasaragod, Vadakara, Kozhikode, Ottapalam, Palakkad, Mukundapuram, Ernakulam, Kollam, Kottayam, Idukki, Adoor and Chiranyinkeezhu. In Kannur, Muvattupuzha and Mavelikara, the Yogam would support the UDF candidate. At Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha and Thrissur it would allow `consience- voting'. In Thiruvananthapuram, the Yogam would covertly support the NDA candidate, O. Rajagopal, the sources said. In the Yogam council meeting, the president, C.K. Vidyasagar, is said to have expressed difference of opinion regarding support to the UDF candidate at Muvattupuzha. Meanwhile, a statement issued by the council after its meeting did not commit support to anybody. It asked the community members to vote for those who supported the Yogam and protected the interests of backward communities. Keep away from politics, says Vakkom: Page 5
