MADURAI, APRIL 4. Controlling desires and concentrating all energies on peace are the ways to lead a happy life, according to Samani Param Pragya, disciple of Acharya Sri Mahapragya, here on Saturday. She said that tension and crime were becoming part of life and this trend could be stopped only if all strived towards achieving universal love and peace. Param Pragya was speaking at the 2603rd Mahavir Jayanthi celebrations organised by Sri Jain Swetamber Terapanthi Sabha and the Gandhi Memorial Museum. She said the teachings of Lord Mahavir were relevant for the present day world that was full of conflicts. Parents should teach their children all good qualities and make them lovers of peace, she said. Bal Vijay, disciple of Acharya Vinobha Bhave, who inaugurated the celebrations, expressed concern over rising terrorism all over the world. He said `ahimsa' was the best path for progress and no one could justify terrorism. Vijay referred to the violence in Kashmir, blasts in Mumbai, conflicts in Iraq and the Palestine, which created a disorder. Violence created panic and wiped out peace, which was essential for a harmonious world order, he said. He also asked the people to shun alcohol and develop good habits for a healthy living. The secretary of the Gandhi Memorial Museum, S. Pandian, said the people should develop forgiveness. "If you can't forgive one, there is no point worth living," he said and urged everyone to practice tolerance.
