NEW DELHI, APRIL 4. Three persons were arrested by the North Delhi police after a chase and exchange of fire when they were allegedly trying to escape from a police picket at Timarpur in North Delhi today. The police recovered 15 crates of illicit liquor and two country-made revolvers from the accused. The police said a car approaching Surghat police picket in Timarpur around 6 p.m. was flagged down by the staff there. However, instead of stopping, the vehicle veered through the picket and kept moving. The Station House Officer of Timarpur, who happened to be present at the picket, chased the trio in his vehicle. But the miscreants opened fire. Six rounds, with three each from both the sides, were fired in the ensuing melee. Nobody was injured. Meanwhile, a Police Control Room van too joined the chase as the vehicle took a turn towards the pontoon bridge. Here the driver lost control and the vehicle hit a wall. The police soon overpowered the three men, who were identified as Sandeep, Sagar and Shankarpal. Their interrogation revealed that the three worked as contract killers for Harvinder alias Jassa, who is presently lodged in Tihar Jail. All three have criminal cases registered against them.
