Narrow win for Southern Rly.

BANGALORE, APRIL 5. Southern Railway pulled off a narrow 16 run victory over North Western Railway in the All India inter-railway cricket championship at the Air Forcer grounds here on Monday.

The contest was reduced to 35-overs-a-side as the overnight rains had rendered the outfield damp and delayed the start.

North Western's gamble, of putting Southern in, boomeranged. Southern, after early loss of wickets, fought back to score 213 for eight. Raghunath slammed 64 (6 x4) to steady the innings, while another useful knock came from Rashid (33).

The scores: Southern Railway 213 for eight in 35 overs (Raghunath 64, Rashid 33, Ashok Bhat three for 41 ) bt North Western Railway 197 in 34.5 overs (Anil Sharma 81, Umapathy three for 48).
