Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Election Commission's reported plan that political parties should get its clearance before political advertisements are aired is a welcome step. However, the Commission will have a stupendous task monitoring the numerous private cable operators unless they cooperate. The term `advertisement' is associated with a commercial technique to woo consumers. It is unfortunate that political parties are resorting to it.
R.K. Divakara,
* * * Sir, As there are numerous cable network channels and political parties, it is not practical to monitor all the ads. The EC can lay down a rule that the parties should submit their advertisements for pre-telecast clearance 10 days in advance.
B.S. Ganesh,
* * * Sir, With each election, the EC is saddled with more onerous responsibilities. This reflects the steep decline in political morality.
H.R. Bapu Satyanarayana,
