Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to the article, "Projecting a Prime Minister" (April 5). The BJP has rightly taken advantage of the Congress' reluctance to project its prime ministerial candidate. Whenever the choice of the Prime Minister is left to be decided till after the elections, it creates heartburn among the allies as was amply demonstrated in 1977 and 1989. Already, Sharad Pawar and Mulayam Singh Yadav have serious reservations in supporting Sonia Gandhi. This means Ms. Gandhi will be at the mercy of her allies in the event of the Congress-led front winning the elections. Undoubtedly, the Congress has thrown away the advantage by postponing the selection of its prime ministerial candidate.
