24 candidates file nomination papers in Mysore

By Our Staff Correspondent

MYSORE, APRIL 5. In all, 24 candidates on Monday filed their nomination papers for various Assembly constituencies in the district while two candidates filed their papers for the Mysore Lok Sabha seat.

With less than 48 hours remaining for filing of nominations, political activity gained momentum as the uncertainty and confusion among candidates over the allotment of party ticket is likely to end on Tuesday.

The maximum number of nominations were filed for the Krishnaraja Nagar Assembly Segment with six candidates, including three independents, entering the fray.

They will pose a challenge to the Minister for Cooperation, H. Vishwanath of the Congress, who is seeking re-election from the constituency.

The candidates who filed their nominations today for the Krishnaraja Nagar seat include Bhaskar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nataraja of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, Palaksha of Kannada Nadu, and B.K. Doddegowda, Kempegowda, and K.R. Lakkegowda, independents.

The Minister for Water Resources, M. Shivanna, who is seeking reelection from the H.D. Kote Assembly Constituency, and the President of the Janata Dal (Secular) district unit, G.T. Deve Gowda, who is contesting for the Hunsur Assembly seat, filed their nominations today.

A dash of colour was added to the day's events by the Kannada film actor and member of Kannada Nadu, B.S. Dwarkish, who will fight the election from the Hunsur constituency. He was accompanied by the cine star, Vishnuvardhan, who extended his support to the former and lent a tinge of glamour to the Hunsur constituency. The rebellion in the Congress camp came to the fore with the former MLA, A.S. Guruswamy, filing his nomination papers for the Chamundeshwari Assembly seat, though the Congress is yet to announce its official candidate. Mr. Guruswamy took out a procession in what was termed a show of strength, before filing his nominations. Mahadevaswamy and N.N. Krishna also filed their nominations. B.S. Shivashankar of Kannada Nadu, Somashekar of BJP, and the former Minister, D.T. Jayakumar of the Janata Dal (S), filed their nomination papers for the Nanjangud seat. N. Janardhan (Kannada Nadu) and H.N. Srinivas, Sayyid Sadiq, and H. Venkatesh (all independents) filed their papers for the Krishnaraja Assembly Constituency.

For the Narasimharaja Assembly segment, A.R. Krishnamurthy of Kannada Nadu and H.R. Vishakantagowda and S. Shantappa, independents, filed their nomination papers.

Likewise, Nataraja of Kannada Nadu entered the fray from the Chamaraja Assembly Constituency while H.D. Ganesh of BJP entered the fray from the Periyapatana Assembly segment.

No nominations were filed for the Bannur and T. Narsipur Assembly segments.

Khalimullah Khan of Kannada Nadu and Manjunath, independent, filed their nomination papers for the Mysore Lok Sabha Constituency.
