ADILABAD, APRIL 5. Both Telugu Desam and Congress candidates for the Adilabad Assembly constituency have launched their campaign in the town. The TDP candidate for Adilabad Lok Sabha seat, S. Venugopalachary, also campaigned in the town on Saturday. The TDP's candidate for Adilabad Assembly seat, Jogu Ramanna, made door-to-door campaign in the town on Friday and Saturday. Both Mr. Ramanna and his Congress rival, C. Ramchandra Reddy, descended on Tamsi mandal on Sunday. Mr. Ramachandra Reddy also campaigned in Jainad mandal headquarters village and Lekarwadi on Saturday. The weekly shandy on Sunday at Bheempur village in Tamsi mandal attracted the two contestants. Bheempur is a fairly large village in Tamsi. Bheempur and nearby villages have a fairly good number of tribal voters. Both candidates were given traditional welcome by women wherever they went. Mr. Ramanna was given a traditional welcome by women. They applied `tilak' on his forehead at Khursheednagar in Adilabad and in Talamadugu mandal headquarters, about 20 km from here. Mr. Ramchandra Reddy was also given a similar reception at Jainad, Sawapur and Lekarwadi villages. Telugu Desam candidates for Adilabad Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies mainly highlighted achievements of the Government during their campaign. Mr. Venugopalachary said that Rs. 60 crores was sanctioned for gauge conversion of the Adilabad-Midkhed railway line during his tenure as MP. Similarly, new roads were being taken up in Adilabad town and six other municipalities in the district at a cost of Rs. 12 crores.
